Pros and Cons of Book Writing

Hello all thanks for stopping in on my blog. So I am covering the pros and cons of writing books today. I don’t consider writing a book a negative on any level, but some do since the markets are so flooded and it is hard to sometimes get noticed as an author. So some of the cons of trying to chase writing as a second career, which most writers have a different job to have a steady income. Unless you get fairly popular as an artist or writer its hard to make a steady income to support yourself. You can write 20 books or 50 books and possibly never get a best seller. Writing takes a certain drive or passion for writing to continue it no matter what goes on. Writing can be a very isolating experience when you spend hours in front of a computer screen or jotting line after line across a page. It can be difficult to have a few hours a day to sit and be comfortable enough to write a few pages or even a chapter.

Family life can suffer if you are trying to constantly focus on the two different careers to keep a steady income and start a career in writing. If you are chasing writing for the hope of catching sudden fame or fortune, it is highly unlikely it will happen but not totally impossible with one or more books. Especially if you are self publishing, you never know what will catch fire and cause a stir to an audience on any given day. Though it comes down to most writers and artists have to polish and wait several books later to make a decent income off of books, it is same with most other artists. Half of the work to me in having a more successful book career is between luck and who you know. The other half is how well the book is written and engages readers.

So on the the pros of writing, as I have said before it can be a very helpful and growth oriented hobby because yes most writers start off as hobbyist in the field. It can be emotionally full-filling and help spiritually and mentally free the mind and soul at the same time. You get to have the joy of having others read and find meaning to your words and thoughts. Even if it is just a few fans, it helps to encourage you to keep going especially when the feed back is positive. Even if it isn’t take each review or critique of your work to mind but not to heart. Everyone writer and artist has room to improve over many years on any skill. To continue on another pro is you could begin to have an income on your work, it might take a year or ten and it might never be a extremely wealthy avenue, but never hurts to have a supplemental income from a hobby stand point. Though it all comes down to is the question of do you have satisfaction in what you do writing or in any other art avenue. If it helps you in anyway or makes you feel better then continue on no matter the negatives, because literally you never know what the outcome might be when you try.

Well hope you take care and thanks for stopping in.
