Book Cover

Hey everyone, thanks for stopping in. Book cover is a fun and important aspect of a book. It is the first thing an audience sees besides the title to draw them to the book. If you go with a traditional publisher they typically have a graphic artist design the book cover. If you self publish you either have to design it yourself or get someone to help you out that has drawing skills. If you have the option of having input on the design make sure it reflects a main part of the book. Look at this book cover I designed below. It has a street lamp, the main two characters, a gun, a letter and darkness eclipsing the main scene. If you read the book blurb, or back cover it makes sense how the cover matches the story line. The female main character is a high class escort woman, and their is murder and mystery surrounding the whole plot.

You want to reflect the book as best you can while keeping it mysterious enough to make a potential fan pick it up and read the description. The cover drops hints of the potential inside the book and so does the title. Choose the right cover and title and you have the chance of catching the eyes of a audience hungry for reading material. It can be simple or flashy, have a busy cover or subtle one. It depends what you are seeking to do with the brand of your book. Some authors are challenged by the cover art and they shouldn’t be. It is important but not to the point it takes the fun out of creating it. You can even take a few shots and photo crop them in a program to create a cover that suits the book. There is many ways to create a cover and even though it is a main aspect doesn’t mean it is the end of the world if it don’t look perfect for you.

Sometimes you can take a picture of the woods spruce it up a bit and use that if it can fit with your book plot. There is so many options to discover the right book cover. It is up to you how it turns out if you are self publishing. Let it feel natural for the book and if you like it can be completely random and not match the story line at all. If you like it go with it, follow the creative instinct. Well I am done with this article if you have questions or comments let me know, or another top for fellow artists. Thanks for reading take care.
